Facebook Announces it will Notify Users of Suspected Account Attacks from State-Sponsored Actors

“The security of people’s accounts is paramount at Facebook, which is why we constantly monitor for potentially malicious activity and offer many options to proactively secure your account.” So says a Facebook Security Notification. The announcement continues:

Starting today, we will notify you if we believe your account has been targeted or compromised by an attacker suspected of working on behalf of a nation-state. This is what the notification looks like on the desktop version of the Facebook website:

No word whether or not this includes the NSA, though Edward Snowden’s leaks of NSA documents already revealed that they have direct access to the systems of Google, Apple, and Facebook among other US based internet giants through their controversial PRISM program.
